We want Composers!

Call for Participation

The San Francisco Composers Chamber Orchestra is now in its seventh season of playing new works by Bay Area composers. At its fifth anniversary concert September 15, we was recognized by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors as "exemplifying and embodying the diversity of new music in the Bay Area, creating a sound that is uniquely San Francisco, and expanding the public's interest in new music." It is comprised of a group of composers who perform in the orchestra, or endow a chair in the orchestra, for having a piece played (one piece performed for supporting two concerts).
The SFCCO is interested in expanding its composer members. It is especially interested in those individuals who write for the entire chamber orchestra (2112 1000 perc pf 2111)) and play string instruments professionally. However, all serious requests for involvement will be considered from those composers willing to join in the collaborative SFCCO environment and agree to the terms of its Composer Guidelines.

We seek professional composer-performers for the following instrumental parts:

  Oboe
Trumpet
Horn
Trombone
Percussion
Violin
Viola
Cello
Bass

In exchange for performing in a two concert cycle a SFCCO composer (as performer or endower) is invited to present one work (up to 15 minutes in duration) at either the November 8th 2008 or June 13th, 2009 concert + bonus February 28th concert. Each piece will receive 4 rehearsals (0:30 minutes per max). The concert will be recorded and composer may receive ASCAP/BMI royalties for the performance. In the past we have even helped composer get grants. Composers who do not play orchestral instruments are welcome to join the organization if they would like to endow a chair (i.e. be responsible for the payment of instrumentalist in their stead). If you are interested in having one of your pieces considered, you must contact David Graves to discuss your participation
